You have known no real challenge before encountering the time you have to decide what colors you have to use in order to get the best possible combination when you are decorating your house. Should it be vibrant? Should it be soothing instead, so it could ooze a warm and cozy feeling? You don't have to over complicate these things too much, if you know and understand the basic principles of color theory.

For all of the colors there are out there, they all come from the basic color of rainbow color spectrum: red, yellow, orange, green, blue, indigo, violet. And don't forget the black and white.

Then, these colors are divided into two categories:

1. Primary Colors. These are yellow, blue, and red. They are called primary because to obtain them you don't have to mix any color.
2. Secondary Colors. These are green, violet, and orange. They are called secondary because to obtain the color you have to mixed two of the primary colors.

Within the color wheel, there are also two more types of colors:

1. Harmonious Colors. These colors are grouped together because on the color wheel they're next to each other. For example, colors like blues, green, blue-green and aqua all lay next to each other and would work harmoniously well to make a comfortable feeling inside a room.
2. Contrasting Colors. These colors are grouped together because they lay on the opposite side of the wheel. Examples would be blue-orange or red-green. They always contrast each other but on the other hand they will also complement each other. These combinations create a strong, vibrant, and intense atmosphere.

A room could have so much more powerful effect by its colors alone. Below are two examples of the "moods" which created by certain colors:

Warm Colors. These are the color that lay on the left-hand side of the color wheels. Its made up of yellows, oranges, and reds. A combination of these will inspire a warm, bright, and cozy mood for the room. Be careful, if you choose a color closer to a primary color, it would create a brighter color and certainly harder on the eyes so make sure to mix it well with softer shades.
Cool Colors: On the opposite of warm colors, cool colors are the colors which lay on the right-hand side. It's made up of greens and blues and more. Mix it up and you will have a cool, calm mood for the room you choose. These colors could make a room feels smaller than its actual size so it's better to avoid using these colors too much in small rooms to get rid of the claustrophobic feeling.

Also, before choosing the right colors for a room of your choice, there are several factors you should consider:

1. Pastel Colors, a collection of pure colors that are muted by whiter or brighter color.
2. Subtle Colors, a collection of pure colors which are darkened by mixing gray or black.
3. Neutrals. These are the colors that don't contrast and can be used or mixed well with almost any other colors. Examples would be browns, beige, creams, and white. Often, they are referred to as 'earth colors'.
4. Tones. To describe the darkness or lightness of a color, you can use the term 'tones'. You can be a little bit creative by adding more variety of tones in a room, spice it up a little bit, rather than just using the ol' boring colors of light and dark.

More often than not, if you feel like you want to renovate a certain part of your home, you just actually need to repaint it with better colors. A right choice of color combination is all it takes to make all the difference in the atmosphere and the feel of a room. Try more colors, experiment, and don't forget to have fun.and have fun.
